While importing Print Report / Text / PDF Reports to IDEA, are you concerned that variable length fields in the Report may get captured incorrectly ?
Do you feel you may lose out important values from numeric fields and / or complete descriptions from text fields ?
Well the solution on hand is 'Scan for Errors' in the Report Reader.
When we select and define Fields in the Field Editor within the Report Reader, our field selection is based on the visual check of the offset (starting point of a field) and the width (Length from the starting point to the end of the field). We make the selection based on the variable length of the representative field within the Field Editor.
However there may be transactions in the Report, where the very same variable length fields may have a larger width and occasionally a varying offset. By not paying credence to this we will end up with incomplete and incorrect field level captures.
'Scan for Errors' scans the entire Report and alerts us to incomplete selections - width / offset and allows us to correct the same using Edit Control i.e. Increase / Decrease the Width and / or the Offset. By applying the Scan to the entire Report, you get a prompt at the end of the Scan - 'Scan Complete No Other Errors Found'.
This increases the assurance and level of confidence on the integrity of Report data imported to IDEA.
As a good practise always apply a Scan prior to Report import to IDEA.
